Waters
Upper Madison River
The upper Madison is the home waters for Trout Country Outfitters. Boasting high fish numbers, the upper is a perfect river for the most experienced anglers, as well as newcomers. Browns, rainbows, cutthroat, and whitefish of all shapes and sized inhabit this world class stream. Come and get it.
Lower Madison River
The lower can be a dream, when caught at the right moment. The lower's time to shine is spring through mid-June and then again around September when the water cools off a bit. The heat of the summer causes the lower to get pretty warm. Best fished in the shoulder seasons.
Jefferson River
The Jefferson is one of the most scenic rivers around and is seldom fished. Your chances of running into a moose are higher than of seeing another angler. The fishing here can be a fickle beast. On the Jeff, you could have the best fishing day of your life, or the polar opposite. The Jeff attracts anglers looking for a chance at the fish of a lifetime. Best fished in the spring and fall due to warm summer water temps.
Missouri River
The Missouri is about a 2.5 hour journey from home base in Ennis. This trek can be more than worth it when the rivers in our area are blown out. The Missouri near Craig, Montana is directly below a dam, so flows stay relatively predictable and maintains clear water. The Missouri can provide some incredible fishing for large trout.
Yellowstone River
The Yellowstone flows north through the Paradise Valley and heads east at Livingston, Montana. The Yellowstone can provide a nice change in scenery if you're looking for a multi-day trip. There is some great fishing to be had, along with some equally great views. Cutthroat, browns, rainbows, and a whole lotta whitefish in here.
Lakes
Some local lakes in the area can provide some great fishing. I spend lots of time fishing our local lakes during runoff when the rivers are unfishable. There are often various opportunities on these local lakes, including bobber rigs, stripping streamers, and dry flies are on the menu.
